6 MONTHS - BELIEVE IT OR NOT!

Happy Half Birthday Kaitlyn!

And what better way to celebrate your birthday than having two needles jammed into your little legs! (Truth is, her round of immunisations took place the day after her birthday, still, it’s never a nice experience for her, or myself for that matter).

Here’s a pic of how my gorgeous girl looked at the half way mark – note the England football jersey is paired with a denim skirt – no confusion here she’s a girl!

And so how would I sum up Kaitlyn’s major achievements at this age?

§ She remains a good sleeper, sleeping from 8pm – 7am most nights and then enjoying three one hour sleeps during the day (well that is if she’s home, the little social butterfly finds it difficult to sleep during an outing).

§ She smiles at almost everyone she locks eyes with (shopping centres are now a very social event). However when it comes to the people she loves, like Dad and Nan, she almost grimaces when she smiles she is so excited. And when her Dad gets home from work, she knows the sound of the screen door opening and looks toward the door to watch him walk in (she really is so clever).

§ She is very very close to sitting up on her own. I am continuing to hold onto her, but leave her for short spurts and she sits up quite well, and her balance is almost there. We now have her sitting up in the bath too, so it won’t be long till she’s showing off yet another new skill.

§ She is starting to outgrow her play mat with the ability to manoeuvre her way around the mat 360 degrees and reach out to get to the toys she wants to play with.

§ Her babbling increases all the time, and it sounds as though she is just on the verge of giving us a “mama”, “dada” or “nanna” – all three of us are investing many many hours trying to encourage her first word.

Anyway, back to the half birthday, on the day itself, we kept our usual appointment with mother’s group, lunching at the local swimming pool before taking the babies for a dip. Taking the little ones swimming is really just a ploy for us Mums to get a guaranteed solid nap from the babies afterwards.. Kaitlyn was no sooner in the car than she had nodded off – it’s brilliant!

This is little Milly from Mother’s Group who is the first to get a tooth! We cooed over her, checking out the little white bumps on her gums and sympathising with Mum, Charmain who hasn’t had it easy lately.

As mentioned last week, a momentous occasion occurred last Saturday night – Kaitlyn attended her first Eels game. While it was way past her bed time, she was very content to sit on my knee and watch the people around her. She was taken with crowd more so than the game, and while the Eels didn’t give us a lot to cheer about, when the crowd did get worked up she hardly flinched (see, there is a benefit in having such a LOUD mother).

Thankfully the Eels turned out a close victory for Kaitlyn’s first outing – hopefully something we will see repeated on many occasions this year.

(taking a much needed break at half time)

This week, Kaitlyn and I enjoyed a catch up with Elysia and Olivia, who themselves mark a major milestone next week - Olivia turns twelve weeks old.

Here are some pics of the girls hanging out – well Olivia is trying to hang out, Kaitlyn is trying to grab (and perhaps eat) her.

Olivia was so lovely (looking more like her Mum every day), and she is so tiny compared to Kaitlyn. I had to look back at some pics of Kaitlyn at that age, as it’s hard to believe she was ever that small.

(where has my baby gone?)

We had such a great day and Elysia looks so well. Motherhood is sitting very well with her, and she is carrying it off extremely gracefully.

Ok, time to wrap up. Next week I head back to work one day a week, so my blog is bound to be a little shorter – perhaps I should get superstar babysitter Nan to post an entry on my behalf?

Ha ha, love the pics of the girls!! Olivia looks so tiny in comparison which is weird as she normally looks so big. Great catching up xx
